摘要:Patterson-Sullivan的测度理论最初被发明出来用于计算极限集的Hausdorff维数。随后这套理论获得了广泛且深入地发展。这次报告中,我将介绍如何构造Patterson-Sullivan测度,及如何用来计数双曲群中的格点及双曲元素的共轭类等问题。

报告题目:Infinite Coxeter groups, Cayley graphs and limit roots

摘要:Cayley graphs and root systems are powerful tools constructed to study Coxeter groups. It is well known that the root systems of Coxeter groups are discrete. However if the generating set S is finite, then the projection of the roots of the corresponding Coxeter group W on suitably chosen hyperplanes may well present abundant asymptotic properties. In this talk we present the recently discovered connection between the visual boundaries of Cayley graphs and the limits of sequences of projected roots. This is joint work with L. Reeves of Melbourne University.

报告题目:Bigelow's proof of linearity of braid groups

摘要:In this talk we introduce the construction of the Lawrence-Krammer representations of the braid groups, and Bigelow's geometric proof of faithfulness of these representations, which solved affirmatively the long standing open problem that whether braid groups are linear or not. Main tools involve (locally finite) homology groups with local coefficients, some kind of pairing between these homology groups, and some simple topological properties about configuration spaces.

摘要:In this talk, we introduce the "dynamical proof" given by Witte-Morris of the result that every orderable, finitely generated, infinite, amenable group admits a nontrivial homomorphism into (R, +).

摘要:Limit groups are introduced by Z. Sela in his first paper of his solution of Tarski’s problem. These groups coincide with the long studied class of finitely generated fully residually free groups. In this talk, we will introduce both of them with some other different points of view, especially the definition as limit of free groups.
