摘要:  In these  three lectures, we discuss  an example of a wild translation surface.  Translation structures on compact (Riemann) surfaces lead to cone angle singularities. One of the first examples of a compact translation surface with a more complicated (i.e. “wild”) singularity was given by R. Chamanara in 2004 by an explicit and simple construction starting from a square and gluing smaller and smaller pieces of its boundary. The resulting surface has infinite genus, and its unique singularity is surprisingly complicated. The Veech group of this surface is a Fuchsian group of the second kind. Chamanra’s original proof that it is freely generated by two explicitly known transformations contained a gap, which we could recently close in a joint paper with A. Randecker.
